Candle Making Kits 248x300

One of the most enjoyable hobbies or activities these days is making homemade candles with the use of candle making kits. Something that I know I enjoy doing is spending the evening with my kids just sitting around the dinner table on the weekends seeing just what different creations we can come up with next. The average kits are fairly inexpensive and start at only around fifty bucks each. We made it a family event and used some of the bake sale money to pay for the start up kit.

Candle Making Kits

Not only is the time spent making candles with the family and with the kid’s great time spent together, but they can be investments as well. People always sell their crafts and art that they make at craft shows and flea markets, so why not take a shot and trying your luck selling home made candles? Candle making kits are fairly self explanatory and it basically involves pouring hot wax into preformed candle molds whilst making sure that the wick is stuck in the center of the mold while it dries. If you’re hoping to sell the candle then it would be a good idea to make sure the wick is dead center and completely straight, as this will look much better and attract more customers. Another great idea is to use different types of wax and different shades to blend together into the candles. When doing this it is important to keep the same color schemes, as this will look much nicer than a candle made with two non-matching colors.

This is where the fun part begins, when decorating your house you can use these candles to match whatever room you would like, because you can change the colors of the wax with little to no effort at all with these candle making kits. The candle’s wicks should typically be held to the bottom and the center of the mold with a base that is then hot clued to the foot of the mold. The wick is held in the center as the hot wax is poured into the mold and should be positioned in the center while the mold dries. It is important to be sure that the base of the wick is securely glued to the bottom of the mold, as this will keep it from rising as the wax dries and that could result in a damaged and defected candle. It is also important to note that when the wax dries, the surface of the wax will shrink down a little bit. For this reason, it would be a good idea to pour a little more than the desirable size of the candle.

Granted, candle making kits are not essential to begin making candles, as most of the materials and utensils that are required to make homemade candles, most people should readily have available as household items. With a kit however, it lowers the dangers of using the wrong materials and this can cause accidents and unwanted mishaps in the kitchen. Candle making kits also make it much easier to color the wax and to create different shades with them as most of the primary colors are then readily available and on-hand. This was something that we had to learn the hard way. Another great advantage to purchasing a kit as opposed to all the individual tools and utensils for making homemade candles separately, is that everything comes together with the kit and sometimes they will throw in samples that can also be fun to experiment with.

The way candle’s scents are altered is usually based off of the desired scent that is poured into the mold’s wax as it is in liquid form. This way the colors and the fragrances are entirely separate and can lead to some creative combinations. The best part about the scents and fragrances is that they are rather inexpensive and will last quite a longtime for candles and candles to come. Some candle making kits offer sample fragrances that come included and these are always fun. We’ve been using a mixture of a little Sandalwood fragrance with some Fresh Rain mixed in, we then blend purple wax with this fragrance and have it melt a little less than half way in the candle mold. Then we mix a dark turquoise on top of the purple, and after that dries we mix purple over the turquoise. Sometimes we even let the colors take the form of waves or other shapes. These are quite the hit everywhere we go and are also a quick seller online.

Candle Making Kits – The Conclusion

Which brings me to my next point, one of the best aspects of candle making kits, as mentioned before, is their ability to generate some income. Selling art and crafts online is one of the best ways to get your creations out there, and who knows, maybe you’ll eve start up your own home business or two. So why waste time, candle making kits are only a few clicks away!
